A Tibetan shopkeeper jailed for carrying a flag with a color photo of the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan figures at a festival in 2015 was released and returned to his family in Ngaba (in Chinese, Aba) at the weekend after serving his full five-year term, sources familiar with the case told RFA.

Former political prisoner Tashi Phuntsok, 60, has died in Lithang (in Chinese, Litang) county, a Tibetan region in Sichuan province, where the monk had staged protests against deforestation by China and suffered beatings in jail, an exile source told RFA.

10 Tibetans arrested in connection to coronavirus rumours

10 Tibetans have been arrested in Lhasa in central Tibet, according to Radio Free Asia.

The 10 Tibetans were reportedly arrested on 12 March for breaching control measures imposed across the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Three Tibetans detained for five to ten days and fined 500 yuan for spreading coronavirus “rumours.”

The Tibetans have been forced to do Chinese legal education training and authorities closed the online WeChat groups they were using on 20 February 2020.

Los presos políticos tibetanos son sometidos a tortura y malos tratos, con la intensión de quebrantar su espíritu y a fin de obtener confesiones que sirvan de base para condenas largas en prisión.

Las prácticas comunes de tortura incluyen:

  • Bastones de descarga eléctrica en la cabeza, la boca o incluso los genitales
  • Golpes con palos y barras de hierro
  • Ser forzado a sentarse o ponerse de pie en posiciones extremas durante horas
  • Aplicación de objetos calientes en la piel
  • Tortura y humillación mental
  • Privación de sueño y comida
  • Confinamiento solitario sin luz de día

Se utilizan diversos métodos de crueles torturas que pueden dejar a los presos con cicatrices físicas y mentales.
